Porta Brindisi

The oppidum also has 2 gates (Brindisi and Ostuni) and 2 secondary entrances (Arco known as "del Prete" and the "Purticedda" in via Monte Nero. Flanked by the Torre del Civile, it is made up of two successive gates; that of the more internal Angevin period, with a pointed arch and crowned with corbels, with usability in the middle of a corridor obtained on the same for the use of the machicolation; and that of the Renaissance period – more precisely erected in the feudal period of the Loffredos – which is round arched and which precedes the older gate. It has kept the original grafts of the door. On the front, two chiselled coats of arms can be seen which should be that of the Loffredas (on the left) and of the University of Carovigno (on the right).
