Natural Reserve of Torre Guaceto

Important for the area is the state nature reserve and the marine nature reserve of Torre Guaceto, of international importance. The Torre Guaceto State Nature Reserve extends for approximately 1,200 hectares, presenting a marine front that develops for 8,000 m. The area is configured as a more or less regular rectangle, with an average depth of 3,000 metres, crossed and divided by the road state road 379. Natural Oasis of Torre Guaceto, includes a precious stretch of pristine and wild coast (7 km) with ideal habitats for many protected animal species. It includes both a Marine Protected Area and a Land Reserve. Centuries-old olive groves (woods of "living sculptures"), suggestive dry-stone walls, high sand dunes and gleaming Mediterranean scrub frame the Tower, built by the Aragonese in 1531, and defined by the Turks as "Gawsit": the place of fresh water.
